For the love of my Sanity!

For the love of my sanity....please do not touch the charger!

It seems like such a simple request, but for those of us with multiple children such a request can be at times an impossible task. My husband and I recently replaced all the kids smartphones with identical ones so there would be no more...her phone is better than mine blah, blah, blah...arguments.

I breathed a little easier knowing that is one less argument I would hear on the daily.  Seriously! There are times I consider getting one of those automated ticket printer stands. Just so there would be some kind of order to all the complaints and must-hear-right-this-minute-or-I'll-pout-in-my-room-listening-to-angry-music-because-nobody-understands-me-stories that come with raising teenagers.

The problem with that idea is I would probably run out of tickets in a single day! So here I am living in my happy-for-the-break bubble, and thinking identical phones...what could possibly go wrong? They all have the same built-in apps, memory size, camera quality, and most importantly(As I learned the hard way) same screen size.

POP........Yes that's right POP goes my bubble.

My husband and I had accounted for everything all the way down to the identical charging cords. He being the problem solver of the family took into account Punky habit of misplacing her charging cord and stealing everyone else's and colored coded hers so it would be easy for her to identify.

In hindsight that was a huge mistake. So it's game night (Oldest daughter Dia is in marching band) Punky doesn't do well with road trips and going to unknown places, so we decided to stay at home that night. We are hanging out in the living room watching a movie, while Punky-who is showing signs of being overstimulated from the school week- is buried in her phone watching youtube video's.

All is well until the battery indicator goes red on her phone. She gets up and goes to her charging outlet to find it empty. No big deal at this point she probably left it upstairs on her nightstand. I tell her to go upstairs and check there, and a minute later she returns with the look...The look that says...my panic level is at a 10.

My daughter Jess and I exchange our own knowing look, and jump to our feet and start searching for this charging cord. We are searching every imagine and unimaginable place it could be for the charging cord she had before bed last night. We can't find it and that's when the whole week comes to a head. The muscles in Punky body go ridged...And it's full on meltdown mode.

There are tears (mostly mine) and screaming (Mostly hers) and attempts at pacifying by offering another charging cord (Bless Jess for her big heart & trying to help) and full two hours of crying I want my own charger before she finally passes out with Jess's cord in one hand and fingers in her mouth with the other.

We survived another meltdown....

I am exhausted myself but I still have one daughter to wait on, as her bus has broken down and they are returning back to the school later than expected. Finally  Dia gets home and launches into her forty-five minute conversation about the game, her friends, and the performance before she announces she is going to bed.

Just before she goes up the stairs, she lays a charging cord on the coffee table. The charging cord...Yes THEE charging cord. The one color coded for her sister, and looks at me and says "Oops my bad." I took a deep calming breath, plastered my best I-love-you smile on my face, and in a soft and steady voice told her goodnight and sweet dreams.

I swapped out the charging cords, and then fell exhausted into bed. So thankful the day was over, but mostly thankful for my family, my patience, and for what remains of my sanity!

Say Hello World! Say Hello World!

BREAKING NEWS: The title was not a typo. I repeat the title was not a typo. It was Echolalia-which is the clinical name for repetitive speech. A condition that is common in both boys and girls on the spectrum.

With that being said: Welcome to my Blog

I am Momma A and this blog is about my wonderful sweet, quirky, shy, and yes sometimes difficult daughter-The fabulous Punky.(No that's not her real name.) Just think Punky Brewster with lighter hair & autism and you'll begin forming a good mental picture.

The purpose of this blog is to shed a little more light on what it's like to raise/be a girl on the Autism Spectrum because lets face it is a Autism boy's world out there. So much of the available information on Autism is gender specific, and is favored in books, memes, websites, and especially in movies and television.

With that being said, I do want stress regardless of gender Autism education and acceptance is the most important issue within the Autism community and we are all one big community! In future blogs I will cover more about all those issues.

Now A little bit about us.

Punky is a 11 year old girl who is obsessed with watching Youtube tutorials, Playing on the Xbox, and She is a HUGGER! (Bayley from RAW for those of you that are not big wrestling fans) This is something her older sisters are wishing she hadn't discovered as they are serving as her unwilling wrestling opponents

Pink is not just her favorite color its also her biggest and longest obsession to date. She also has a even bigger dislike for Shopkins!!!

Now as for me Momma A: I am a mother to five wonderful children ranging from ages 18 down to 11 years. My Husband thinks I'm  crazy but I think I'm a superhero...It's an ongoing debate! When I am not wearing my mother/wife crown & cape, I am working on writing my first novel.

Our Journey into the world of Autism started very early on but we didn't have a clue where we were until we received an official map when Punky turned 8 years old and was diagnosed with Autism spectrum disorder. (I will get more into this in a future blog)

It has been a very emotional roller coaster and the ride continues each day. I am hoping to take you on some of our adventures along the way.

                  Stay tuned. Thanks for visiting!
